Hundreds of protesters floated the Snake River over the weekend, cheering the words “Free the Snake.” They want the lower four dams on the river taken down to save the salmon. It’s a battle that’s been going on for decades and is still raging on.
Studies show that with every dam that has to be crossed, the mortality rate is higher for fish. Idaho Rivers United wants the lower four dams on the Snake River breached, but Idaho Fish and Game officials say they’re working on helping the salmon in other ways.
The “Free the Snake Flotilla” event took place on Saturday across the waters held back by the lower Granite Dam. About 300 paddlers took part to spread their message. Watch the video…
